Shoden - Reiki I

Reiki is a Japanese healing and spiritual art form originating from Tendai Buddhism. Its practices are used to raise one's frequency.  The form is taught through a series of levels, practices, symbols and mantra that marshal Universal Life Force energy.  It can be used for healing the physical, mental and emotional bodies, and brings one into a state of resonance with higher energy and Oneness.

Kim-la’s Reiki training was approved by an accredited member of the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

In the Usui System of Natural Healing, we use the "Art of Reiki" to improve our health and energy system, and we learn how to heal our own and others' energy bodies. Reiki works on the same principles as acupuncture, tai chi, qi gong and Tibetan Medicine. It can be given as a hands-on therapy or sent as distance healing.  The student in this level learns a simple and elegant system which allows for the channeling of Reiki energy with amplification. Using this system, one can attain freedom from pain and suffering, and support others in that purpose.

These practices have been handed from teacher to student in an unbroken lineage since 1922.  Reiki is both a healing modality and a spiritual tradition.  As such, we think of it as a creative expression or art form. It is used at most top hospitals, including The Cleveland Clinic, the Mayo Clinic, Boston Children’s Hospital, Mayo Clinic, MedStar Washington Hospital Center, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center among many others.

If you have previously studied Reiki, the way it is trained within the Art of Reiki community may be different. The training in this Reiki level comes from Japan and Tendai Buddhism, and the esoteric practices within that tradition, known as the “Diamond Vehicle.” This Diamond Vehicle opens the practitioner to greater power, realizations and wisdom. With that, also comes a grounding in ethics and responsibility in the use of power.

The "Art of Reiki" is used to improve health and the subtle energy system. Through these practices, you learn how to heal yourself, and others' energy bodies, and as a result, the physical is also healed. Reiki works on the same principles as acupuncture, tai chi, qi gong and Tibetan Medicine.

In Kim-la’s system, she uses a Wang (དབང) or "empowerment" from the Diamond Vehicle to open the subtle energy system of the trainee. In Vajrayana Buddhism, Reiki power is conveyed by the Reiki Master to the student, allowing for the channeling of the Reiki energy at an amplified rate.  This kind of energetic attunement is called an Abhishek (Sanskrit: अभिषेक) and it has been practiced in many traditions that work with subtle energy for thousands of years.

Most of Kim-la’s students complete their Shoden Reiki I level within 3 to 4 one hour Warrior-Healer one-on-one sessions with Kim-la.

Because each person enters into this path with different levels of subtle energy awarenesses, daily practices vary between levels in terms of time and effort. Kim-la has worked with hundreds of Diamond Vehicle students, and will advise you on the amount of time she feels is a good fit for your daily practice to make aligned progress for you.

An open book test is required for certification within the Art of Reiki for advancement to Shipiden (Master), and covers Shoden and Okuden concepts and practices.
